Tanjung Putting National Park, Central Kalimantan

Visiting Tanjung Putting National Park is something you can try on when you want to see wild orangutans and other exotic tropical animals live freely in the jungle. The park is located in the biggest province in the island and it covers territory the size of Bali. I t is a home to a great variety of inhabitants both flora and fauna.  This is a world famous natural treasure which attracts a growing number of international visitors each year. 

The incredible jungle surrounds make this an amazing place to visit if you after a truly outdoor adventure. The orangutans are undoubtedly the best known inhabitants of the park, made famous through the work of the Orangutan Research and Conservation Program based at the Camp Leaky research station. Camp Leaky is an orangutan preserve and the site of the longest continuous study of  wild animal in the history of science. 

Activity
Explore the jungle and enjoy you’re ride in a traditional boat ‘klotoks’ all around the Sekonyer river. You will be transported to another part of the world, far from hustle and bustle of city life. Along the ride you can see monkeys jumping from tree to tree. 

Try to spot wild orangutan swinging through the thick and lush vegetation. Keep your eyes out for crocodiles too, it might hard to spotted but they are definitely there. 

The main attraction of Tanjung Putting is in Camp Leakey. The daily feedings of wild orangutans will be the highlight of your visit as you most likely get to see wild orangutans up close in their natural habitat. 

To Stay
The majority the visitors of Tanjung Putting travel via boat and stay on board during their time in the park. Although there are also limited options of hotels and home stays near the park.  

Getting there
There are several direct flights from Jakarta to Palangkaraya, the capital of the province. From here you will drive to the river and using the small boat to explore the park.
