Papua is known as the
“land of unexpected” because Papua is truly unique local, full of pristine
rain-forest and home to the most ethnologically primitive people on earth.
Papua is Indonesia’s largest and the most eastern province. The most heavily
populated and cultivated parts of the island are the Paniai Lakes District and
the Baliem Valley to the east.
Cendrawasih Bay National Park
Bay National Park is
the largest marine national park in Indonesia with an area of 1,453,500 ha and
one of the best dive sites in the archipelago.
The Cendrawasih park is a playground of one of the world’s largest animals, the spotted whaleshark or rhincodon typus. Here the shark come in pods and divers can swim along with them quite unharmed except to beware not to be hit by one of their powerful fins.

In the village of
Kwatisore near the town of Nabire, these giant fish usually gather by the
floating platforms, called bagan, where fishermen haul in their catch of small
fry. Kwatisore can be reached from Nabire in around three hours by boat. The
only accommodation available in the village is simple room at SD Immanuel
Primary School.
Activity
This region has a
fairly high species diversity and community cultural authenticity that can be
an educational research and recreation object. You can do snorkeling, diving or
animal observation in Nusrowi island, Nutabari island, Kumbur island and Nuburi
island. On Yoop island and Windesi waters visitors can go whale and dolphin
watching.
While in Mioswaar
island can be found a natural cave with ancient remains, thermal springs and
waterfalls. See also underwater cave with a depth of 100 feet in Tanjung

Getting There
The route from
Jakarta, Makassar or Denpasar are the more easy to reach by plane to Manokwari
and to Nabire. From Nabire take a long boat to the Park at Rumberpon Island,
which take some 5.5 hours. To visit the whalesharks take a boat to Kwatisore
village from Nabire, the journey will take about 3 hours.
