Pulau Kaget Nature Reserve, South Kalimantan

It is a home for Proboscis Monkey, a unique long nose monkey. Pulau Kaget Nature Reserve is located near the estuary of Barito River, which flows through the city of Banjarmasin. This island is a delta island formed by sediment of mud which grew from the river bed. Due to its fertile soil, the island creating a dense forest which became the habitat of various wildlife. 

The unique Proboscis Monkey is obviously the star of this reserve. Locally it called Bekantan, this shy creature is an endemic species which can only be found in Borneo and is known as one of the largest monkey species native to Asia. 

Loksado, South Kalimantan

It is another Dayak Village found in South Kalimantan. Some two and a half hour from Banjarmasin, entering this area you will be welcomed by a lush landscape decorated with wonderful waterfalls, rushing rivers, and the enchanting culture of its indigenous people. Known as South Kalimantan’s paradise, Loksado is a sub-district of the Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency where the well preserved indigenous Dayak culture meets the stunning natural landscape. 

Loksado is home to the indigenous Dayak Meratus Tribes, a sub ethnic group of the Dayak in Kalimantan that occupy traditional houses called Balai. Balai is a traditional wooden long house with tens of rooms occupied by tens of families. The most exceptional feature of Loksado’s natural treasures is the Amandit River that runs through some of the most fascinating sceneries of the area. The winding river of fresh clear water decorated with rocks, creeks and unique traditional bridges that look to the lush green hills of Meratus are surely a sight rarely found elsewhere.
