The Lakey Beach, Nusa Tenggara Barat

Lakey Beach is a long, wide, palm-lined, white-sand stretch of beach fronted by reef. Located in the Hu’u Village, Dompu Regency, in the province of West Nusa Tenggara on the east coast of Sumbawa Island, its “left-hander” waves challenged every surfer to conquer. Among the world’ surfer community this beach already well-known, majority tourist comes from Australia, South America, and others.

Not as other waves, the wave in Lakey beach appears to sweep to the left direction. The uniqueness of this place, with its natural beauty has become a sensation, especially among surfing enthusiast. Aside from that, the sea breeze is fairly strong as well which supports the activities of surfing, wind surfing, or kite surfing.

This is the kind of place where you can join in a soccer game on the beach with the local boys in the afternoons, watch villagers fish in the tide pools at low tide, or try spear fishing when the tide comes in. If you take any path out of the village, you will find the vicinity is greener and has more vegetation then other locales along the island’s southern coast.

Activity
Lakey beach is a perfect place to relax and unwind with great surfing, kite boarding, good fishing and plenty things to discover. The most popular breaks for surfing are Lakey Peak, Lakey Pipe, Nungas, and Periscope, all of them have a top quality waves. There is a mixture of quality lefts and rights, and the waves have very good barrels on the right tides. You will find the local surfers very hospitable and they respect the friendly tourist that arrived to surf.

Getting Here
Daily flight from Denpasar arrived to central Sumbawa town of Bima. From here you can a taxi-bemo, the only public transportation, which will take you to Hu’u Village about 3 hours drive. From Hu’u, Lakey beach is around a 30-45 minute drive.

As a tourist destination this place attracts so many tourist from all over the world. There are approximately 10 existing hotels around Lakey beach. You can choose based on your needs and budget. Some of them are five-star hotels, but there are also several home stays with rates starting Rp 100,000 per night.
